Use of GRS
Control Union Certifications created the Global Recycle Standard (GRS) in 2008, and ownership was transferred to the Textile Exchange on January 1, 2011. The GRS is a voluntary international standard that establishes requirements for third-party certification of recycled material, chain of custody, social and environmental norms, and chemical limits.
The GRS is designed to address the demands of businesses seeking to verify the recycled content of their goods (both finished and intermediate), as well as acceptable social, environmental, and chemical practices in their manufacturing processes. The GRS’s goals are to develop regulations that ensure accurate content claims, safe working conditions, and minimal negative environmental and chemical impacts. More than 50 countries are represented, with enterprises specializing in ginning, spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing, printing, and sewing.
